Ecommerce Solutions

Having your own ecommerce solutions platform can be key for your business to succeed and stand out from competitors. Having your own custom ecommerce solutions platform could attract new customers meaning it delivers a satisfactory shopping experience and ultimately offering the best tools to manage efficiently. An ecommerce platform should be built around your own requirements rather than having to work around standard ones that are already built. When having your own custom platform, you should take into consideration the following:
  • Are you PCI DSS certified?
  • Are you a visa merchant agent?
  • Is it really 100% secure?
The above three are just a few important factors for a good framework, however, ecommerce solutions should be easy for providing easy administration. For example, ease of adding items/pages, editing these and deleting them, the ability to capture and retain customer details, a good product catalogue, product search, an efficient WYSIWYG and additional payment gateway solutions along with other important factors all in all making it as easy to use for the customer as possible.

There are various different standard ecommerce solutions that allow companies to sell their products online but they tend to come with standard functionality which might not let you reach the heights you want to get to as a business and can be quite restrictive in what you want to do. Therefore having a bespoke package created for you, it takes out the generic script that you get with the standard ones meaning your flexibility is greater letting you do more. As the internet is such a competitive world, it can be a tough task finding the right company that have the right ecommerce solution for you. For a prospective customer on an ecommerce site it must be attractive and have offers on there as people now are always on the look out for bargains/deals. Security is another important factor when looking for ecommerce solutions. Many customers will only buy from a site that is trusted and is 100% secure meaning that they have to be assured of this whether through logos or a security page on the site that they can read.

So if you are a new online business and you are looking for a custom made platform, then I suggest using Google to search for ecommerce solutions and see what results you get. It is always good to be on the look out for companies that have won awards for their platform as this gives you a clear indication of who is the best one to use and who isn't.

Smartphone Users

There has been a recent survey of European customers that confirms the trend for shopper to use their smartphones to research products in store. The report which was conducted by Tradedoubler actually found that 42% of smartphone users use their device to compare prices in store whilst 13% of the users claim to have changed stores after finding a better offer elsewhere. According to mobile research company mobileSQUARED , there were more than 32 million smartphone users in the UK in 2001 expecting it to double by 2012. Also, it is estimated that more than 17 million people in the UK will go online via mobile in 2012 rising to more than 20 million by 2015.

Mobiles and the Internet is a part of every day life now especially for businesses and the technology that is now available via mobile is ever growing and has paved the way for unique brand experiences when utilised properly and efficiently by companies. In 2011, mobile search, ecommerce and advertising saw a huge increase in traffic and sales due to having mobile optimised websites. Research has shown that 11% of overall website traffic came from mobile devices. Going into 2012, the expectant growth of mobile is set to soar at a quicker rate as many brands now have mobile optimised sites giving the customer a better user experience.

Many people use their smartphones on the go, at work, in restaurants, on public transport, at a social gathering or on the go. With these facts and figures it makes perfect sense for a company to have a mobile commerce website (if you are an ecommerce company!). With the ever increasing popularity of smartphones and even tablet devices, the Government has pledged to expand the UK's internet capabilities which in turn could see an increase in transactions on mobile and tablet devices.

Tradedoubler’s survey also highlights the importance of mobile optimised sites with a quarter of responsdents said that are more likely to purchase frequently if the websites were optimised for mobile hence the further need to have mobile commerce websites. On the other hand some people can be quite hesitant to buying online due to issues with security with their bank details and people that do buy online via mobile, the value of purchase does tend to be a lower amount rather than buying something of high value via mobile.

From a marketing point of view, there is still a significant amount of catch-up to be done for mobile commerce to become as trusted as standard ecommerce.

Countertop Basins

Whether your bathroom basin is one of the most important features in your bathroom or not is entirely your decision. What you must remember that though is it is used by everyone in your home and more than likely any visitors that come to your home therefore it must be resilient and easy to clean. If you are looking at replacing your current basin then there are a number of different things to take into consideration. For example, if you have quite a small bathroom, then you necessarily don't need a small basin but you don't want a large basin to look out of place so it is about getting the balance right for you. Another thing to take into consideration is that if you have children then the height of the basin on the washstand might be a problem as they might not be able to reach it!

Countertop basins fit perfectly on the top of any freestanding bathroom furniture, for example, a washstand or a vanity unit. It works by being 'invisibly' plugged in and doing so it creates a great focal point to any bathroom. Countertop basins are generally available in round, square or oval shapes and come in two sizes – small or large. Whatever countertop basin you choose you will need to make sure you also buy some taps as they come without tap holes. A tall mono mito bathroom tap would be the perfect addition as it is stylish and has a stunning chrome finish.

There are three different brands of countertop basins you can get which are Paz, Cora and Poco basins all of which provide the same type of basin just different sizes.

With the countertop basins being freestanding, you may need additional storage so why not take a look at the freestanding furniture on offer. Modern freestanding furniture tends to be made with real wood veneers which adds a contemporary feel to your bathroom making them ideal for any countertop basin to sit upon. The 900mm washstand would contemplate the basin perfectly as it provides enough space for the basin, tap and any extra storage space needed.

Installing your freestanding basin can be quite tricky if you are unsure on how to do it properly. You must decide on the final position of the vanity unit before cutting any holes in the basin and also read the instructions that will be provided carefully to familiarise yourself on how to carry out the process. If you are still unsure on how to do this then it could be a good idea to ask someone to help you.

A good number of latest and highly desired and stylish bathroom basins and taps are ready to buy online at great prices to modernise and transform your bathroom.

Jigsaw Blades

A jigsaw is an extremley versatile power tool used to cut curves and patterns into a variety of materials. Generally jigsaw blades are used for more aesthetic purposes than your every day hole saw. They do tend to be quite safe to use as they move through the materials only as fast as it is pushed through but still remember to be cautious when using a jigsaw blade. Jigsaw blades tend not to be very expensive and come in a variety of patterns. Some things to remember whilst using your jigsaw blade are:

  • Let the saw do the work – you must be slow and careful as if you are having to push too hard then you are probably using the wrong type of blade.
  • Pay attention – every material is different and will require different amoutns of strengths to be cut so remember to follow the pattern of each different material and try not to work against the pattern.
Are you unsure what shank you should use? For your jigsaw blade, you can use a t-shank/universal shank, a black and decker shank or a makita shank – all of which would work perfectly. For reciprocating blades, the best type of shanks to use are a universal shank or a u-shank. If you are using an airsaw blade then the type of shank you need to use are ober-pneutec or chikago pneumatic shank or an SIG/flex shank.

T Shank (Bosch/Universal/Bayonet) Jigsaw Blades

The t-shank jigsaw blades are also known as the Bosch or universal shank and is the most popular end fitting for jigsaw blades. It can be used on the following makes of machines:
  • AEG (Atlas Copco)
  • Boasch
  • Elu
  • Flex
  • Hitachi
  • Holz-Her
  • Lenox
  • Mafell
  • Makita
  • Metabo
  • Milwaukee
  • Sparky
Black & Decker Shank
This shank was first designed by Black & Decker to be used with their jigsaw blade machines but it can also be used on the Kress, Ryobi, Skil, Stayer and Wolf machines.

Makita Shank

These types of shanks are made in Germany by MPS and can be used for a variety of different materials ranging from wood, acrylic glass, metal and other abrasive materials.
Unsure on how to use a jigsaw blade? Then follow the simple instructions below:
  1. Select the type of jigsaw blade
  2. On the material, mark the design you want to cut
  3. Clamp the material firmly to a work table
  4. Always remember to put safety goggles on as this will prevent any chips or splinters from damaging your eyes
  5. Start by using the corner of the material
  6. Once you have begun cutting, remember to move the machine in a smooth slow motion
  7. To finish the cut you either stop the machine or wait till the blade has stopped moving and pull the blade out of the material or finish on the edge of the material and gently guide if away from the material.

A Guide To How To Wire A Plug & A Plug Socket

Wiring a plug is not the toughest of jobs but needs to be done correctly as a large number of people always seem to get it wrong. If you are uncertain then follow the instructions below!

Step 1:
  • Unscrew the back of the plug, some simply click in and out of place.
  • Take off the exterior cable sheathing to reveal the insulated wires.
Step 2:
  • Remove the covering on each wire leaving about 1cm of exposed metal on each wire.
  • Twist the strands of wire together.
Step 3:
  • Make sure the wiring is set to the right terminals. For example, the brown live wirte joins the terminal marked L, the blue neutral wire joins the terminal marked N and the earth wire (green and yellow) joins at the top marked E.
Step 4:
  • Fit the exposed metal of each wirte through or around the terminal and screw the back on the plug tightly.
Also remember, sometimes the fuse would need replacing too!

How To Wire A Plug Socket

It is amazing how many people don't know how to wire plug sockets as it is a minor task! However, if done wrong, it can turn out to be a more complex job than first thought. Firstly, you need to turn off the breaker that gives power to that particular socket. Remember to check you have done this correctly first by plugging something in and making sure it isn't live and only go ahead when you are 100% sure that there is no power running through it!

Firstly, you need to remove the screws out of the faceplate meaning you can then take the faceplate off the wall then drag the socket out as far as it will come out but remember to be careful not to damage any of the loose wires. Next, you should take note of where the wires are connected to the socket as you will need to reconnect these as a later stage. The wires are usually colour coded as they are when re-wiring a plug. Undo the wires from the old socket and reconnect them in the new socket tightening the screws aswell making sure that no wires with another colour are touching each other. Making sure the wires are fastened into place, push the socket back in and screw it in then replace the face plate and turn your power back on and see if it works!

How To Choose The Perfect Bath

Whether you are revamping your whole bathroom or just looking for a new bath it is worth spending the time and putting the effort in to create the look and feel you desire. Baths are often the main focal point of any bathroom so you must make sure your bathroom is big enough for certain types of baths and whether you want additional features, such as a gorgeous freestanding bath or a shower bath (l shaped baths or p shaped baths are both great). There are many things to take into consideration when looking at purchasing a new bath such as the size and space of your bathroom, the colour scheme you are going for and who will actually use the bath. Having said that, shower baths are very useful as you can get the best of both worlds – a generous showering area and a bath to relax and unwind in. Also, having both a shower and a bath can add value to your bathroom. Shower baths tend to be used if you don't have much space in your bathroom and want the choice of having a shower and a bath or if your bathroom is at an awkward size. They come in a variety of shapes including l shaped and p shaped baths. L shaped baths do tend to have a squared off showering enclosure with straight sides whereas the p shaped baths tend to have a circular shape to one end of the bath.

One thing to remember when buying a bath is that the taps don't always come with the bath and you often have to buy them separate. There are a number of different types of taps you can buy including crux taps, rubic taps, sesto taps and insignia taps – all of which depends on your style and taste and which you prefer. Some people prefer the more traditional bathroom taps making the coronation bathroom taps perfect. Whereas, if you prefer more modern taps then any of the crux bathroom taps, linx bathroom taps or the rubic bathroom taps are probably the right type for you.

Also, if you are thinking of buying just a standard bath you might need to purchase a bath panel as some baths don't come with bath panels. Depending on where your bath is going to be located, it might just be a case that you might need a side end panel rather than a tongue andgroove front bath panel. Ultimately, choosing the right bath panel for your bath will probably depend a lot on the look your are going for in your bathroom.

Renovating Your Bathroom

Remodelling your bathroom can be an exciting but daunting prospect as you want to get it to how you personally want it but also how it can increase the value of your home if you ever came to selling it is important. There can be several key issues to take into consideration when renovating your bathroom with your budget being the main one, however, if you take time out planning your bathroom and how you want it to look then a wonderful bathroom is sure to follow. Also you might want to take into consideration colour schemes for your bathroom as you want everything to match! Things that you might look to buy are cabinets, mirrors, a bath, a shower door and furniture – all of which can be very costly.

Cabinets & Mirrors

There a huge range of bathroom cabinets and mirrors to buy online now so remember to take a good look around before making your final decision on what you want. You can actually combine the cost of buying a bathroom cabinet by buying a cabinet and a mirror combined rather than the two separate ones. Mito have an extensive range of single door and double door cabinets with mirrors on them looking stylish and are very spacious.

Shower Doors

Shower doors tend to be the most popular thing to buy for your bathroom as they can be a lot easier to fit rather than a standard bath. They do tend to be more of a convenience purchase though as they tend to be solid unlike shower curtains that you have to change so often. They also provide a tight seal around the showering area making sure there are no leaks and tend to be easy to maintain as their tough surface tends to be easy to clean.

Bathroom Furniture

There are a few different options to have for bathroom furniture including fitted, freestanding or white gloss furniture all of which can be bought from online retailers on the internet. Internet shopping offers a vast range of furniture items and the choice of comparing prices online.

Different Types of Hole Saws

A hole saw is a saw blade whose annular kerf creates a hole in the workpiece without hang to cut up the core material. Hole saws typically have a pilot drill bit at the centre to to keep the saw teeth from walking. They are one of the most popular tools for making round holes of different diameters in a wide range of different materials. There are 3 main different types of hole saws:
  1. Morse Master Cobalt Bi Metal Hole Saw
  2. Morse Tungsten Carbide Tipped Hole Saws
  3. The Morse Tungsten Carbide Grit Edge Hole Saws

Being one of the most popular types of hole saws as it suitable for most jobs. Although it has been thought that this type of hole saw cannot cut stainless steel, the Morse Bi Metal Hole Saw has been specifically designed to do this and can consistently make approximately 75 cuts through stainless steel. Standard morse bi metal hole saws have a cutting depth of 38mm and has a high speed steel cutting edge and tough fatigue resistance backer.

Morse Tungsten Carbide Tipped Hole Saws

These hole saws have been specifically designed for sawing holes in abrasive materials, for example, fibreglass, drywall and nail free wood. They have a coarser tooth pitch which enables thicker nail free wood surfaces such as countertops to be cut without scorching. An advantage of this type of hole saw is that is it super resistant to heat and water with a shock resistant back. This saw generally is preferred by locksmiths as it is ideal for cutting out mortise locks because of it's tooth pitch allowing bigger chips to be cut.

The Morse Tungsten Carbide Grit Edge Hole Saws

These are the hole saws that are designed to cut much more abrasive materials such as steel, cast iron and fibreglass. They have a castellated edge so they can run in forwards and reverse, therefore doubling the life of the hole saw!

Why is Coconut Water So Good For You?

Coming from the young green coconuts before they have developed into the brown shell that we all know and recognise coconuts to be, coconut water is a pure source of hydration and nutrition. In it's raw state, it is known as 'isotonic' meaning it is one of closest things to the composition of the fluids in our bodies. Due to it being a natural source of potassium which helps maintain normal muscle function and it also has no added sugar to the natural occurring sugars of the coconut. It is also great for a hangover!

I'm sure you're all going on your work Christmas parties at some point this month and the alcohol will be flowing when the next morning you will have an almighty hangover! Coconut water = the perfect solution! When you're hungover, you tend to be dehydrated as alcohol is a diuretic, you need to keep hydrating your body with fluids. Too much alcohol can have an effect on other body parts such as kidneys, liver and stomachs as they cannot handle the impact of alcohol, therefore, they need to quickly recover.

Other benefits of coconut water:
  • Improves digestive systems
  • Helps in prevention of viral infections
  • Temperature control – water is the body's cooling system so water helps the body when it starts to overheat. Minerals can sometimes be lost through sweating and need to be replaced quickly for hydration which is where isotonic drinks prove to be the best.

Any Side Effects?

Because coconut water is one of the healthiest drinks around, it doesn't have any side effects unless anyone has a severe allergic reaction to nuts. It is perfectly fine for pregnant women, children and women that are breastfeeding.

Coconut water can also be made into alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails and my 2 favourite are below:

Coconut Colada
  • 2 ounces Cîroc Coconut Vodka
  • 2 ounces coconut water
  • 2 ounces Coco Lopéz Coconut milk
  • Mini umbrella
  • 1 cherry
  • Fresh coconut, with top cut off
Combine vodka, coconut water and coconut milk, and serve in fresh coconut with umbrella and cherry as garnish.

Non-Alcoholic Xcalacoco Welcoming Drink

  • 1 peeled fresh coconut
  • 1/3 ounce lemon grass
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cups water
Boil the coconut and the lemon grass with 1 cup of water. Once it has completely boiled, add remainder of water and sugar. Strain the liquid and cool in the freezer before serving.

ZICO Benefits

New year – Healthier you? If so, drinking coconut water should be on the top of your list!

Coconut water comes from young green coconuts before the hairy shell we know has developed. For thousands of years coconut water has been a pure source of hydration, nutrition and well being for people in the tropics. Coconut water is credited with many health giving benefits! In it's raw state, coconut water is 'isotonic' meaning it is one of the closest things to the composition of the fluids in our own bodies. A favourite for many sports men and models it is the ideal thirst quencher!

Being hydrated is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself, 60% of your body is composed by water and is perhaps the most important element in your diet. Hydration is vital to many parts of your body's processes:
  • Cells - The water in your body is crucial for transporting nutrients to your cells.
  • Muscles and Joints – water plays a big role in cushioning your joint from impact and in helping the your muscles function properly
  • Digestion – water is apparent in every stage of the digestion process, it dissolves nutrients so that they can be delivered to your body's cells.
  • Temperature Control – water is the body's cooling system, when the body over heats it sweats loosing water and minerals which need to be quickly replaced, this is where isotonic drinks are valueable.
  • Brain – Just a 1-2% drop in your body's fluid levels will affect your ability to concentrate.
  • Skin- water maintains skin's elasticity, softness and tone.
  • Kidneys – Your kidneys are your body's detoxing centres and need to be flushed with water in order to work properly.
  • Heart – Hydration maintains proper blood pressure, dehydration decreases heart function and can lead to reduce blood pressure.
As well as keeping you Hydrated allows your body to function properly Coconut water is:
  • Low in carbs and sugars
  • 99% fat free
  • replenishes your body fluids after exercising
  • Raises metabolism and promotes weight loss.
With Coconut water being an alternative to sports drinks such as Gatorade, as this is high in sugar and low in the nutrients you need, you should drink coconut water during light physical activity rather than intense work outs.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is the clear liquid inside the coconuts when they are green. As the fruit matures, the coconut water is gradually replaced by the coconut meat and air. It is made with 100% fresh water and has no added sugar along with no fat and no cholesterol making it one of the most healthiest drinks around!

The water comes from the green coconuts before they turn into the brown shell that we all know and recognise as coconuts. In it's raw state it is 'isotonic' meaning it is one of the closest things to be composition of the fluids in our own bodies. Todays reasons for drinking it is to discover the freshness and the health benefits.

When To Drink It

With it being an alternative to sports drinks such as Gatorade as this is high in sugar and low in the nutrients you need, it is important to keep hydrated and refreshed to replenish your body's supply and to drink coconut water during light physical activity rather than intense workouts.

The Benefits Of Drinking Coconut Water
  • Low in carbs & sugars
  • 99% fat free
  • Keeps the body cool and at the correct temperature
  • After exercising, it replenishes your bodys fluids
  • It has been known it can raise your metabolism and promote weight loss
  • It is more nutritious than drinking whole milk
If you don't fancy drinking pure coconut water, you can always mix it in with something to make a “cocktail” as such. Below is an idea of a recipe that you could use coconut water in.

Melon Tango

The combination of coconut water and melon make this drink very refreshing and this vitamin C loaded fruity concoction has been an all-time favourite amongst my family and friends! You can also add a bit of black salt to perk it up! All you need is the following:

2 cups of muskmelon, cubed juice of 2 oranges
2 cups of coconut water
2 tablespoons of sugar
add a pinch of black salt if you'd like

How To Make The Perfect Melon Tango!

Blend the melon and strain it well then combining the other ingredients and mix well.
Serve chilled in glasses and you can always garnish with mint leaves!

If you want to add a little spice to it, why not add some alcohol to the coconut water? For example, add 2 ounces of golden rum along with coconut water and serve on ice!

As you may have seen plenty of celebrities have been seen drinking coconut water. Celebrities such as Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Anne Hathaway have all been seen drinking the nutrient packed drink making it the drink to have this year!

Mobility Scooters & Insurance

Mobility scooters are great aids for disabled or elderly people giving them a better way of life and a more independent life. Purchasing a mobility scooter can be a daunting prospect though as there are many factors to take into consideration. These include:
  • Are you using the scooter indoors or outside?
  • Will you be driving on roads?
  • Comfort, look and feel of the scooter – therefore testing a few is a good idea first.
  • Can it be transported incase you were to travel?
Another thing to take into consideration is whether to have mobility scooter insurance or not. Anyone thinking of buying a mobility scooter is advised to take out insurance because if you have an accident whilst using your scooter, any injuries caused to other people and damage to their property will be paid for, if your scooter is damaged, lost or stolen it will be repaired quickly or be replaced and you can even take your scooter with you if you travel abroad as some mobility scooter insurance companies insurance policy covers being abroad including during the airport and on board aircraft.

Some companies offer a variety of different insurance policies such as insurance for new or used scooters ranging from 1 year to 3 years cover. Other policies include insurance cover and warranty cover so if anything was to go wrong with your scooter, it would be covered under the warranty cover. These also can range from 1 year to 3 years.

Currently, there is no lawful requirement for any person using a mobility scooter to have insurance but it is something you should really have at least at a third party cover to take care of all the possible claims that could be made if anything was to happen. Mobility scooter insurance has 2 key elements to it – one for cover for your own vehicle as well as insurance cover against accidental injury or even damage caused to those that could be affected by its use. Mobility scooter insurance is definitely an affordable and effective way of stopping any problems so make sure you have got yours!

Dynamometers & What They Mean

What Is A Dynamometer?

A dynamometer is a device that can be used to determine the power required to operate an engine. They also measure the characteristics of torque, rotational speed and power output of a combustion engine, electric motor or other power source. There are two different dynamometer systems that are engine dynamometers and chassis dynamometers.

Engine dynamometers offer the most innovative engine diagnostic tools in the market today. It measures the power and torque directly from the engine's crankshaft when the engine is removed from a vehicle. They are also capable of indicating when the repair is complete, the engine is operating according to specifications and when they are ready to break in engines before installation. Engine dynamometers are mainly used the engine manufacturers themselves. In order to perform the measurements on the engine, the engine has to be connected to the dynamometer with a shaft, however, some new dynamometers can be connected to a computer making it easier to operate giving more precise results.

A chassis dynamometer measures the power delivered to the surface of the drive roller by the drivewheels. These are often found in performance workshops. Due to it measuring the output of an engine through the wheels of a car, the engine doesn't have to be removed from the frame of the vehicle.

The Ac dynamometer is constructed using a low inertia AC motor that is specifically designed for engine tests that are mounted on a substantial baseframe. For trunnion mounted machines, a precision strain gauge load cell is used. Heat generated within the dynamometer is corrupted by the integral cooling fan. The advantages of an ac dynamometer is that it has very low inertia, very fast response and line regenerative whereas the disadvantages are that it can be quite a high cost and it does require high amperage electrical service.

Hydraulic Dynamometers have been designed to be compact, robust and allow easy maintenance. The dynamometer working compartment consist of semi-circular shaped vanes cast into stainless steel rotors. The dynamometer load is controlled by a characterised water outlet valve which is operated by a closed loop electro hydraulic servo system. The power absorbed by the dynamometer is carried away by the water in the form of heat.

Powertrain testing is currently undergoing massive change which is being driven by the challenges that global society are currently facing. The need for reduced dependence on fossil-fuels and improved carbon-footprints are driving changes in the technologies used in all vehicles. This in turn has a direct impact on approaches to testing of Powertrain components and systems.
